Initially slated for release on Max the show was dropped due to it not aligning with the DC universe curated by James Gunn and Peter Safran. However Netflix swiftly secured the rights to “Dead Boy Detectives.”
The series is being developed under the leadership of Steve Yockey who serves as the show’s runner along with Beth Schwartz. Neil Gaiman plays arole as an executive producer in the project.
Originally introduced in The Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman Dead Boy Detectives eventually had its own successful comic book series. Noteworthy authors like Ed Brubaker and Toby Litt contributed to it.
The two main characters Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland have made appearances in live action media before and you might remember them from Doom Patrol.
What is Dead Boy Detectives about?
So what is Dead Boy Detectives all about? Born in different decades Edwin Paine (played by George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (portrayed by Jayden Revri) find each other in the afterlife.
Instead of moving on to the next realm they decide to stay on Earth and create the Dead Boy Detectives agency.
This agency specializes in solving peculiaar super natural mysteries. Throughout the show they embark on all kinds of bizarre adventures like journeying to Hell and confronting wicked witches. Take a look at the official description forthe series below.
Dead Boy Detectives is a remake of a ghost story that explores loss grief and death through the lens of Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland and its very lively friend, Crystal Palace.
It’s a lot like an old detective show, only darker and more acidic.”Neil Gaiman first introduced them in The Sandman #25, midway through the Season of Mists story arc, in the comics.
In the story, Charles Rowland must be left alone at St. Hilarion School while all the other children go on vacation.
However, he soon discovers that many of the school’s former inhabitants are returning from hell, including former student Edwin Paine.
