The loneliness pandemic is affecting the world

The World Health Organization has established a committee of experts to promote social communication in the world and thus combat loneliness.

Loneliness is a global epidemic that is increasingly affecting more and more people, both young and old, and is one of the biggest health risk factors.

It is co-chaired by African Union Youth Envoy Chido Mbemba and US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, who examined the dangers of social isolation.

The agency confirmed that “one in four people, and between 5 to 15% of adolescents, suffer from social isolation, which are similar rates in all regions.”

“Rising rates of social isolation and loneliness around the world have serious consequences for health and well-being. The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, explained that “people who do not have enough stable social relationships are more at risk of stroke, anxiety, dementia, depression and suicide.” “This WHO panel will help establish social connectedness as a global health priority and uncover promising measures.”

Chilean Health Minister Ximena Aguilera and her counterparts from Morocco (Khaled Ait Taleb) and Sweden (Jacob Forsmed) also form part of the committee.
